My journey.

From an early age, I discovered a natural gift for music, and, with the guidance of inspiring mentors and teachers, I embarked on a journey to pursue music as a profession. After completing my Master's degree, I taught music in California, both privately and at the university level. There, I realized that I wanted to deepen my expertise to better serve my students. This led me to make the decision to return to school, where I was awarded a prestigious teaching fellowship at an elite college of music and tier one research university.

I embarked on a unique path, pursuing and successfully completing two doctorates simultaneously. The first, a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA), is the traditional terminal degree for performers, while the second, a PhD in Performing Arts Health, equipped me with the skills to conduct scientific research on the distinctive health challenges faced by musicians.

During my PhD studies, I found a new passion for nutrition and its transformative impact on human health and performance. This revelation led me to the mission of not only helping singers but also musicians of all disciplines and, ultimately, anyone seeking better health and performance. My expertise as a voice teacher centers on vocal health, utilizing proven techniques to build vocal strength and stamina. As a nutrition consultant, I specialize in plant based eating to optimize balanced nutrient intake, fostering improved health outcomes and enhanced human performance.

Education

2019-2024

PhD - Performing Arts Health
University of North Texas

Pursuing a PhD in Performing Arts Health was driven by a dual commitment — to offer specialized training for musicians and to extend my expertise to diverse communities. Collaborating with healthcare professionals at the Texas Center for Performing Arts Health provided a rich context for developing a robust scientific foundation. The pinnacle of my academic journey was marked by the publication of my dissertation, 'Nutritional Habits of Student Musicians and Their Effects: Consumption of Fats, Fruits, and Vegetables as it relates to BMI, Mental Health, and Other Factors.' As the largest and most comprehensive epidemiological survey to date on the impact of nutrition on musicians, this research yields valuable insights applicable to both musicians and non-musicians alike. Now, having completed my studies, my aim is to leverage this expertise to provide holistic and evidence-based well-being solutions for individuals across various domains.

2019-2022

Doctor of Musical Arts - Performance
University of North Texas

Pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance, I honed my expertise through intensive study and private lessons under the esteemed American pedagogue and PhD in voice science, Dr. Stephen F. Austin. This comprehensive program included a specialization in voice pedagogy, equipping me with advanced techniques to enhance vocal training. As a teaching fellow at an elite music school, I had the privilege of instructing college voice majors, further solidifying my practical experience. My dissertation, 'Straw Phonation in the Private Voice Studio: The Effects of a Straw Phonation Protocol on Student Perceptions of Voice Over Time,' showcased original research, contributing valuable insights to the field and earning publication. Other research from my DMA studies included a study titled 'Singers’ self-perceptions of mask wearing' Which investigated the implications of mask use during the Covid-19 pandemic on the voice. This research was presented at the 2021 annual Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) conference.

  • As a Teaching Assistant at Penn State, my focus extended beyond traditional vocal training, aiming to enhance the vocal development of musicians whose primary instrument was not the voice.

  • Completed a thesis and presented a lecture titled 'Yoga and Meditation as Tools for Reducing Performance Anxiety in the Private Voice Studio.' This research delved into innovative approaches to address music performance anxiety, contributing valuable insights to the field.

2009-2013

Bachelor of Music -
